Believe in God

Christian Mom

Proverbs 3:25-26 “Do not be afraid of sudden terror or of the ruin of the wicked. When it comes, for the Lord will be your confidence and will keep your foot from being caught.

Materials:

  1. Bible
  2. A clear glass
  3. Index card (prepare at least 5 pieces)
  4. Any paper
  5. Pencil / Pen / Crayons

This is the last of our family devotionals on the Book of Proverbs. What better way to end this series but to believe in God.  It is pointless to teach all of these to our kids if we do not believe in Him.

What does it mean to believe in God? It simply means to have faith in Him. Hebrews 11:1 beautifully defines what faith means. “Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see.”  Faith is believing even if we cannot visibly see it. It is having full confidence that all His promises will take place because of who our God is. It is the assurance of the things we hope for because it is rooted on the character of our God.

After prayer and reading the verses, we provided each kid with paper and some coloring materials. We asked them to draw anything that they are afraid of.

Do Not Be Afraid

Here is what they drew…

Caleb drew a creepy creature. He explained that his imaginations scares him. For that reason, he doesn’t want to be alone. This is so true. In fact, she lets Zoe accompany him to the bathroom all the time. He also dreads to be alone in the dark.

Zoe’s answer also didn’t come as a surprise. She simply drew a big F on the paper. She is afraid to fail. Zoe has always been an achiever. During her first year in school, she cries when she is not an expert at something. We had to explain to her the reality that we are not experts over all things. Only God is. Slowly she has learned to rejoice even if she doesn’t get perfect and tells us that she will try to be better.

Vincent and I explained to them that just as what the verse states, we shouldn’t be afraid of the creepy creature or even failing in school because we can be confident that God will protect us. He will keep us safe from the terror of the night.

We used a Science trick to explain further why we should believe and have faith in God. Christian Mom

If you look at it closely, it seems like the index card is holding up the water inside the glass. Logically speaking, paper cannot hold water. So in reality, what was holding the card in place is AIR PRESSURE.

The air pushing up from underneath the paper is strong enough to stop the water from pushing the card down. Air pressure causes the card to stay on the glass so the water will not spill out.

Through this Science trick we explained to the kids that we cannot see air pressure but we know it exists. We also know that it works in holding up water inside the glass even if it was turned upside down. Like God, we can’t literally see Him but we know that He is there to hold us even when our lives our “upside down”. God is there to keep us even in the most difficult times of our lives. This we can be confident.

God and Science

The kids might not have wanted to trust Vincent with what he is doing but Vincent knew what he was doing. Our God is the same. Sometimes we don’t have faith in Him that He can do the impossible but God knows. He knows exactly what He is doing. He is in control of everything. Therefore, there is no reason for us to be afraid.

Hoping and praying that this will help you in your family devotionals.

Sincerely,

ChristianMom101
